1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Bríq mobile application (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.
The App is operated by Patrick Carroll (“we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms are an agreement between you and Patrick Carroll.
2. Description of Service
Bríq is a financial literacy and tax calculation application designed for the Irish market. The App provides:
- Irish tax calculation tools
- Financial planning features
- Kids Zone for teaching children about money
- Budget tracking and insights
- Bills, reminders and savings goals
- An optional read-only connection to your bank account
- Irish budget update summaries
Some features are available only on a paid plan. See section 7.
3. User Accounts
To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Maintain the security of your account credentials
- Notify us immediately of unauthorised access
- Be responsible for all activities under your account
- Not share your account with others
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for illegal purposes
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems
- Interfere with the App’s operation
- Upload malicious code or viruses
- Harass or harm other users
- Scrape or copy content without permission
- Impersonate others or provide false information
5. Tax Calculations Disclaimer
IMPORTANT: The tax calculations provided by Bríq are for informational purposes only and should not be considered professional tax advice. While we strive for accuracy:
- Calculations may not reflect your specific circumstances
- Tax laws change frequently
- We are not liable for errors or omissions
- Always consult a qualified tax professional
- We do not file taxes on your behalf
6. Kids Zone and Parental Responsibility
The Kids Zone is designed for children under parental supervision. Parents and guardians are responsible for:
- Monitoring their children’s use of the App
- Ensuring age-appropriate content
- Managing Kids Zone accounts
- Teaching financial concepts appropriately
7. Premium Features
Bríq has a free tier and three paid plans: Plus, Premium and Family. Some features are available only on a paid plan.
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play — not by us directly. By purchasing a subscription:
- You authorise recurring charges to your App Store or Google Play account
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled
- You cancel in the App Store or Google Play, not in the App. We cannot cancel a subscription for you, and deleting your Bríq account does not cancel it
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms. We do not operate a separate refund policy
- Prices may change with notice
8. Intellectual Property
All content, features, and functionality of the App are owned by Patrick Carroll and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not:
- Copy or reproduce App content
- Modify or create derivative works
- Reverse engineer the App
- Remove copyright notices
- Use our trademarks without permission
9. User Content
You retain ownership of content you create in the App (financial data, Kids Zone progress, etc.). By using the App, you grant us a license to:
- Store and process your content
- Display your content to you
- Backup and secure your data
We do not use your content for any other purpose, and we do not use it to train anything.
10. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with third-party services: open banking through Yapily, a regulated provider, if you choose to connect a bank account; and purchases through the App Store or Google Play. Connecting a bank is optional, is read-only, and the App cannot move money. Your bank consent is given at your own bank and lasts 90 days, after which you must reconnect. The processors we use are listed in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for:
- Third-party service availability
- Third-party privacy practices
- Third-party terms and conditions
- Third-party data security
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- The App is provided “as is” without warranties
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages
- Our total liability is limited to fees paid in the last 12 months
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted service
- We are not liable for tax calculation errors
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Patrick Carroll harmless from claims arising from:
- Your use of the App
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of others’ rights
- Your content or data
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Violate these Terms
- Engage in fraudulent activity
- Harm other users
- Request account deletion
Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Data retention follows our Privacy Policy.
14. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes via:
- Email notification
- In-app notification
- Updated “Last Updated” date
Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any disputes will be resolved in Irish courts. If any provision is found invalid, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
